timeline
timeline
as my theme will be to represent the progression of transport thought-out the ages I have decided to represent this through a timeline going from creatures, to cycles, to motors. to create this I used brown paper along with black and white pen, this gave the overall composition more impact using three solid tones to create light and shadow rather than simply black and white, this also gives a somewhat aged appearance. this is one of my favourite pieces, however I do not see it as a potential final composition at it is many pieces within a single one.
acetate this material is very useful in art as it can be used to sample a design on many surfaces or to overlay many different designs, this overall can save time and resources which within this subject is incredibly valuable. however images created on acetate do have a shiny finish and as a result can be difficult to take good photos of and does not appear as it would when being viewed in person, in addition to this having many sheets of acetate can be costly.
white pen
using the timeline as a template I went over the light shades using a white liquid pen, however I decided to layer all of the drawings together to create a more abstract pattern in which the shapes and form are still visible and retain their representation of the evolution of transport. the main issue with this piece is as mentioned earlier, that the shiny surface of the acetate clashes with the background surfaces, in addition to this I feel it may be too much of an amalgamation and does not mix as well as I had hoped with the tested backgrounds.
black pen
because the white piece can work as a piece on its own, as a result of this I created a negative copy of it using the same method to work with it on plainer backgrounds so that when overlaid they would look different when placed on a black or white surface. this did not work as intended as the surface of the layered acetate discoloured whichever colour what on the underside so that it would not match the background.
however some interesting pieces were created when using these pieces against backgrounds of black and white, or brown. focusing more on pattern and symmetry rather than form since both pieces fill in for each other when aligned however when placing them facing opposite directions while overlaid creates a far more abstract composition with only a few aspects being recognisable as holding form.
