Photoshop
to create these I primarily used the selection tool to isolate the sections that I wanted to replace, I then copied the image of the car and deleted the section I did not need by inverting the selection and deleting it, I then reverted the selection and added the threshold effect to the selection so the layer is black and white, the white section was then selected and deleted and the opacity of the layer was reduced. by doing this the layers underneath still follow the same shadows of the car, the same effect can be achieved by setting the additional layer to multiply mode as this will make lighter shades transparent however there is far less control over how the layer appears.

each piece has the potential to carry a different connotation as they use different photos to replace aspects of the vehicle
-          natural

using natural elements to replace the external elements of the car can connote a potential development in greener transport or retuning to nature as abandoned vehicles become quickly rested and overgrown but take many, many years to return to the earth. in relation to my theme it represents how transport has overrun nature to create roads that weave around the landscape causing hazards for wildlife and blocking them off where the roads cut though the landscape. I do like the pieces featuring natural elements of human imprint is often associated with the conflict with nature as man continues to progress and destroy. however often it can be hard to pair natural elements with other ones effectively, especially those contain a lot of green as this colour does not mix as well as other colours.

-          inside out
my personal favourite featuring the internal components of the car such as the engine on the extremities, this gives the overall image a somewhat steampunk appearance in which I have used a lot in the past. this can also represent the transition from steam to electricity and petrol. especially since the brassier tones work better with other metallic colours, however these kinds of images tend to have little variation and up close can appear to only be slightly different as a result I cannot see many images being used in this way.

-          pattern
the most abstract using patterns and words, the photo of the 'I am love' statement was found amongst other graffiti in London.
